Q: How can I help my child get better grades?
A: Concerned about your child's academic progress? We get it. We know how much parents want to see their children achieve success. As educators with over 50 years of combined experience working with students, we can attest that the best way to improve a child's academic performance is to engage them in the learning experience.
How do you get your child to engage in learning? You provide an educational environment that supports the learning style and cognitive processing of your child. In order to do that, you will need to know your child's learning style(s). Need more guidance? Read this post.
Once you have a basic grasp on your student's learning style (which we can help you figure out), the following three steps will maximize your efforts:
1. Develop a plan.
The first step is to come up with a plan. How will you ensure your child's academic, social, and emotional needs are met? There are a myriad of resources available to support your student's learning experience.
2. Establish routines.
It is important to develop a routine that supports the learning style and cognitive processing of your student. Children are set up to thrive in a structured environment. When we talk about structure, we are not talking about a cold, rigid atmosphere. Instead, structure is created by rules and routines, which teaches children what to expect.
3. Be consistent.
Make it a priority that the routines and strategies you choose to employ are used consistently. You must follow through with your plan in order to gauge how effective it is, so you can adjust as needed.
